Onam Celebrations
Chief Guest: Mrs. Veena Mathew, Entrepreneur, Chennai
The Onam festival was celebrated in a grand manner in the College. Several events/competitions were conducted to mark the occasion. Tug of War, Tyre Shoot Out, Balloon Bursting, Gunny Bag Race and Ball Game were conducted for men. Lemon and Spoon Race, Passing the Ball, Mehendi were conducted for women. Common events such as Face Painting and Kolam were conducted for both men and women.
After the events / competitions, the formal function was held in the Lincoln Hall. The programme began with the Tamizh Thai Vazhthu and the lighting of the Kuthu Vilaku. This was followed by a welcome dance. Dr G Geetha, AP, Dept of Commerce welcomed the gathering.
Cultural events such as songs and dances depicting the Onam theme were performed by the students.
The Chief Guest in her speech said that she is deeply overwhelmed by the way Onam is celebrated in the College and elsewhere in Tamil Nadu. She said that such celebrations foster goodwill among all Indians and pave the way for National integration. She was in deep appreciation for the enthusiastic participation of the students in all the events and competition and congratulated the prize winners.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competition that were held.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms D Maria Sophia and the National Anthem followed.
