Objective of the Event

The primary objective of the workshop was to enhance financial literacy among students by creating awareness about capital markets, investment avenues, investor protection and the role of SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India). The programme aimed to equip students with practical knowledge to make informed financial decisions and promote responsible investing.

Programme Proceedings

The one-day Financial Literacy Workshop commenced at 10.00 am in the Mini Auditorium. The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. G. Sivasekar, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, who warmly welcomed the resource person and the participants. He highlighted the importance of financial awareness among young learners in today’s dynamic economic environment.

This was followed by the introduction of the Resource Person by Ms. R. Esther Martina, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration. She introduced Mr. Senthil Kumar as an experienced edupreneur and SEBI SMART Trainer, emphasizing his expertise in financial education and investor awareness programmes.

The technical session was handled by Mr. Senthil Kumar, who delivered an insightful and interactive session on financial literacy. He explained the structure and functioning of financial markets, the role and objectives of SEBI, basic investment instruments, risk and return concepts, and common investment mistakes. Real-life examples and practical illustrations were used to help students understand complex financial concepts easily. The session also included active interaction, question-and-answer discussions, and case-based explanations.

Students actively participated throughout the session, showing keen interest in learning about investment planning, mutual funds, stock markets, and investor safety mechanisms provided by SEBI.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Vidhyalakshimi, III BBA, who expressed gratitude to the resource person, the management, faculty members and students for their support and active participation, which contributed to the success of the workshop.

Overall, the one-day Financial Literacy Workshop on SEBI was highly informative and beneficial, successfully achieving its objectives by enhancing students’ financial awareness and practical understanding of the financial system.

Learning Outcome

At the end of the workshop, the students gained a clear understanding of the role and functions of SEBI in regulating financial markets. They acquired basic knowledge of various investment avenues and capital market instruments and developed awareness about investor rights, responsibilities and measures for fraud prevention. The session also helped students improve their financial decision-making and money management skills, thereby building confidence to plan and manage their investments responsibly for the future.
